Somewhere out there Beneath the pale moonlight Someones thinking of me And loving me tonight Somewhere out there Someones saying a prayer That we'll find one another In that big somewhere out there And even though I know How very far apart we are It helps to think we might be wishing On the same bright star And when the night wind Starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we're sleeping Underneath the same big sky Somewhere out there If love can see us through Then we'll be together Somewhere out there Out where dreams come true And even though I know How very far apart we are It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star And when the night wind Starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we're sleeping Underneath the same big sky Somewhere out there If love can see us through Then we'll be together Somewhere out there Out where dreams come true...
The lyrics of "Somewhere Out There" convey the love felt by two people separated by vast distances, but cheered by the belief that their love will eventually reunite them to be with each other once again. In the original theatrical production, the fictional characters singing "Somewhere Out There", Fievel and Tanya Mousekewitz, are brother and sister, and the love they share is described as general. However, in the more popular single version of the song, the love is described as more romantic.
